OHS&R Policy                               

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is a masonry product manufacturing and distribution company that operates primarily in Bathurst NSW.

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for employees, clients, subcontractors, suppliers and the public. Benex Technologies Pty Ltd places the safety of individuals and the public ahead of protection of equipment and services.

This policy provides a mechanism to facilitate improved health and safety performance, with continuing consultation and co-operation between Benex Technologies Pty Ltd employees, partners, subcontractors and suppliers.

To help to continually improve our OHS system we have established measurable objectives and targets.

The main objectives include:

  • Provision and maintenance of safe plant, equipment and systems of work, including safe storage and handling of hazardous substances
  • Consultation with employees through the Occupational Safety Committee, Designated Work Groups and Health and Safety Representative on policy development and accident prevention measures
  • Responsibility and accountability at all levels of management for health, safety and welfare matters in areas under their control
  • Responsibility of all employees for working safely and achieving a healthy and safe work environment
  • Recognition of the role of Health and Safety Representatives and provision of adequate resources to enable them to carry out their duties
  • Education and training for all employees in the basic principles of OHS&R to inform them of their responsibilities, rights and obligations, and
  • Investigating the cause and taking corrective action for every accident or incident regardless of whether it has caused injury or not.

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd recognizes its legal responsibility and requires all of its employees and those of its suppliers to work safely. Benex Technologies Pty Ltd regards existing Regulations, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards, as a minimum requirement.

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees.  This is best achieved by maintaining tidy, clear workplaces, and providing employees with the necessary instructions equipment to carry out their duties safely, Benex Technologies Pty Ltd recognizes and accepts its obligations to assist employees to stay at or return to work in the event of injury or illness because of their work or as a consequence of a work-related injury.

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant and appropriate. (Last review July 2008).


Environmental Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd acknowledges and accepts its obligation to preserve and protect the environment and through its management and staff is dedicated to the implementation of environmentally responsible outcomes in all aspects of the Company’s business.

The Company’s intent is to manage its business such that its activities have minimal environmental effect on either its projects or the community. Inherent in this philosophy is active waste minimisation schemes including recycling programmes, pollution prevention (including noise) and energy/resource management.

This Policy will be affected through the following:

  • Design of an environmentally sensitive and considered production plant
  • Iterative management reviews of the success and adequacy of the Policy itself including the implementation of rectification measures if required
  • Compliance with all relevant Legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice
  • Working with ‘like-minded’ Clients, Contractors and Suppliers
  • Identification of project specific environmental risks and the development of appropriate Work Method Statements/Management Plans
  • Communication of this Policy to the Company’s management, staff and workforce and its Clients, Contractors and Suppliers.

Quality Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is in the masonry product manufacture and distribution industry and seeks to undertake those services to a standard of ‘quality excellence’.

The Company is dedicated to the delivery of quality products and services in a safe, timely and cost effective manner with repeat business through Client satisfaction being the Company’s goal. The maintenance of quality relationships with existing Clients, whilst developing similar relationships with new Clients, is fundamental to achieving this goal.

In promoting this objective, the Company provides individual project focus in order to understand its Clients’ total needs, such that documentation, specifications, budgets, cost plans etc are reflective of those requirements, and expectations are thereby met.

  • This Policy will be affected through the following:
  • Review of developments in, and requirements for third party accreditation
  • Provision of appropriate and skilled resources to ensure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Working with ‘like-minded’ Clients, Consultants, Contractors and Suppliers
  • Training to promote ‘continual improvement’ in the Company’s quality delivery systems and skills development
  • Identification of project specific risks and the development of appropriate controls such as Work Method Statements/Management Plans, and
  • Iterative management reviews of the success and adequacy of the Policy itself including performance monitoring and the implementation of rectification measures if required, and critical analysis of ‘Client satisfaction’.

Privacy Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to comply with the Privacy Act 1988.  This policy provides a mechanism to ensure personal information collected by BenexBlock™ is used in a manner that is compliance with the Privacy Act 1988.

The main objectives include:

  • Collecting personal information that is necessary for one or more of its functions or activities
  • Collecting such information only by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonable, intrusive manner
  • Taking reasonable steps to ensure personal information collected, used or disclosed by the company is accurate, complete and up-to-date
  • Taking reasonable steps to protect the personal information it holds from misuse, loss and from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure
  • Taking reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify personal information if it is no longer needed for any purpose
  • Clearly documenting the procedures involved in managing personal information relating to the disclosure, use and elimination of personal information
  • Ensuring, whenever it is lawful and practicable, individuals will have the option to remain anonymous when entering into transactions
  • Not collecting sensitive information unless the individual has consented to it and the collection of that information is required by law

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd recognises its legal responsibility and requires all of its employees and those of its suppliers to abide by these laws accordingly. Benex Technologies Pty Ltd regards existing Regulations, Codes of Practices and Australian Standards as a minimum requirement.


Conduct Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to the highest moral and ethical standards in all facets of the Company’s business.

All employees are to conduct Company business within the law and to accepted society standards. The health and welfare of all stakeholders is inherent in this ‘Code of Conduct’.

Unethical and immoral behaviour is an activity which may bring the Company into disrepute and will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action, to the extent of dismissal from employment, will be the result if an employee is found to have breached this ‘Code’.

Further, unless Director Approval is provided:

a) The acceptance of gratuities, gifts and the like from any party working on any of the Company’s projects, or contributing to any other aspect of the Company’s business, is unacceptable.

b) All employee private transactions with parties involved with the Company must be ‘transparent’. Quotations, invoices, receipts etc are considered mandatory for such transactions.


Discrimination Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd recognises that all forms of harassment and discrimination are illegal and is therefore committed to providing discrimination free workplaces.

The Company will not tolerate:

  • Unfair/unequal treatment of people on the basis of their age, sex, sexual preference, marital status, political persuasion, race, religion, disability etc
  • Intimidation or similar antisocial behaviour, or
  • Unwanted sexual advances.

The Company actively encourages the reporting of any discrimination/harassment considered to have occurred within the workplace and undertakes to expeditiously and confidentially investigate (and where required take disciplinary action), of any such complaint.

This Policy will be affected through the following:

  • Promoting a culture of respect and dignity in all aspects of the Company’s business
  • Communication and promotion of this and the Company’s Conduct Policy
  • Promoting throughout the Company’s management, staff and employees the understanding of the unlawful nature of harassment and discrimination
  • Ensuring workplaces are free from offensive displays, including pornographic/sexually explicit material

Drug and Alcohol Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd will not accept the use of illicit or illegal drugs in any area or upon any project that is under the control of the Company.

The consumption of alcohol on all Benex Technologies Pty Ltd premises is not acceptable during working hours. After hours use of alcohol may be authorised by management in facilities under its control or at Company sponsored/attended functions, however the individual employee remains responsible for his/her actions and to comply with the law. (Please refer to the companies Drug and Alcohol Programme for the management guidelines for company related functions.

Any person who is drug or alcohol affected, such that their ability to work is compromised or the health and safety of co-workers is undermined, will not be permitted to commence or continue work. Lost time payments to any employee unable to work as a result of drug/alcohol influence will not be considered. (Should prescription drugs be the cause of a problem, the employee should notify the Company and revert to the sick leave provisions of his/her Contract of Employment rather than remain at work).

In the event that an employee’s performance or ability to work is reduced as a result of drug or alcohol abuse, confidential counselling will be encouraged with the view to the employee seeking self help rehabilitation. However, and irrespective of such rehabilitation programme being undertaken, recurring abuse and/or compromised safety resultant from drug and alcohol impairment will be grounds for disciplinary action, possibly to the extent of dismissal from employment.


Dress Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd seeks to reinforce the Company’s professionalism in all facets of its business, including the appearance of its staff.

Therefore, all staff are required to present themselves in a neat and tidy manner commensurate with the Company’s professional standing.

Employees should be mindful of society’s accepted standards in their personal presentation. Therefore, during working hours or at Company attended/sponsored functions, the following guidelines are to be followed.

  • The wearing of thongs, T-shirts, singlets, jeans, dirty and/or worn clothing etc is not acceptable.
  • In the event that the Company supplies uniforms and/or clothing - whether or not bearing the Company’s logo - such clothing should be ‘first preference’.
  • Protective clothing and footwear supplied by the Company should be maintained in a clean and presentable manner.
  • Safety helmets (hard hats) supplied by the Company should be maintained clean and free of any advertising paraphernalia excepting the Company logo, site induction certification and user’s name. 

Industrial Relations Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd seeks to foster good working relationships by adopting a philosophy of expeditious, fair, equitable and sensible handling of industrial relations matters.

The Company further commits to complying with all industrial relations legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice that may apply from time to time and further promote Government industry reform initiatives.

This Policy will be affected through the following:

  • Fostering open communication between management, unions and employees
  • Maintenance of safe work places and provision of Personal Protective Equipment as necessary
  • Adherence to applicable Awards and/or Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
  • Negotiation of specific Project Agreements if applicable
  • Communication of this Policy to the Company’s management, staff and workforce

Return To Work Policy
(Rehabilitation & Critical Trauma Management)

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to the prevention of workplace related illness and/or injury through the provision and maintenance of healthy and safe working environments for staff, subcontractors/suppliers, Client representatives and visitors who may have need to access Company controlled sites.

In the event of a work related injury/illness being sustained by a Company employee, Benex Technologies Pty Ltd accepts its obligations to support and assist that employee to return to work expeditiously and with dignity.  This also includes the engagement of an external practitioner or qualified Employee Assistance service provider in the related field of need.

In conjunction with this Policy, the Company is also committed to complying with the provisions of relevant Workers Compensation legislation and associated guidelines, specifically for the ACT ’Workers Compensation Act 1951’ (a summary of which is included with this Policy).


Training Policy

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to the highest quality in the delivery of its business outcomes and recognises that the skill base of its employees is fundamental to this commitment.

Benex Technologies Pty Ltd understands that ongoing training is critical to the maintenance and development of the employees’ skill base.

Therefore, Benex Technologies Pty Ltd is committed to implementing appropriate internal, external or ‘on the job’ personnel training programmes by:

  • Maintaining focus on Client needs
  • Keeping abreast of changes in applicable legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice that may apply from time to time
  • Understanding technological developments, improvements in work methods and society’s evolving standards
  • Monitoring individual advancement within the Company, particularly in respect of changed roles and/or increased responsibilities
  • Accepting responsibility for the Company’s commitment to quality, communicating mistakes and learning from them, and
  • Encouraging employees to notify the Company of any education/training that may be of benefit to themselves and the company

At any Company sanctioned training, employees are expected to seriously and enthusiastically undertake the programme with the purpose of improving personal skills and the Company’s quality delivery.
